2016 Chevy Colorado High Country
Just as Ford has its special edition Ford Ranger Wildtrak, Isuzu has its X-Series, Toyota has its TRD, Mazda BT-50 its Eclipse, Chevy Colorado has released its High Country Special Edition vehicle with special accessories.
Exterior enhancements include “Dark Chrome Mask” headlamps, dual-tone light grey and black grille and nudge bar, and a glossy B-pillar veneer. Chevy Colorado High Country also comes with transverse roof-rack bars, a stylised sports bar, chromed rear-door belt-line molding, and mirror scalps. Completing the look is a chromed/blackened tailgate handle and 18-inch wheels.
Inside, the driver’s seat comes with electrically-powered six-way adjustments, while all seats are finished in “Brown Stone” leather, which is also used in the Trailblazer SUV. The dashboard, center console and steering wheel gets glossy piano black trim. The High Country also features smartphone connectivity, navigation and a reverse camera.
Powering the truck is GM’s second-generation Duramax 2.8 litre turbodiesel engine, with 200 hp and 500 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm. Both 2WD and 4WD models are available.
2014 2015 Chevy Colorado
The updated Colorado features a more powerful engine, Chevy’s MyLink infotainment system and other technical and aesthetic upgrades. It was recently introduced in Australia.
The new engine is question is the Duramax 2. The 2.8L variant now produces 200 hp at 3,600 rpm and 500 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm. That’s the same power as the 3.2L five-cylinder Ranger Wildtrak and 30 Nm more than the Ford, so it will lead the class when it reaches Malaysia. The old engine did 180 hp and 470 Nm.
Equivalent to 178 Nm per litre, the new engine will not only improve the Colorado’s acceleration and linear performance, it will also enhance the vehicle’s towing and payload capacity. Also improved is the 2.5L variant, which now produces 163 hp and 380 Nm, up from 150 hp/350 Nm.
Several parts were upgraded, with the main points being the high-pressure commonrail, a water-cooled variable-geometry turbocharger, an electrical EGR valve and a new composite intake manifold, among other things Both 2.5L and 2.8L variants are Euro 4 compliant and can be upgraded to meet Euro 5, 6 and US emission standards if necessary.
New six-speed manual transmissions will be fitted to both 2.5 and 2.8L variants. They feature retuned ratios to take advantage of the new Duramax’s extra grunt. Automatic variants retain the proven Hydra-Matic six-speed self-shifter.
Inside, you’ll find Chevrolet’s latest MyLink infotainment system. Thailand’s top-of-the-range Colorado LTZ1 is now equipped with MyLink that has a seven-inch screen and integrated navigation. The system is capable of displaying album artwork, videos and images, and comes with a nine-speaker sound system, DVD-movie capability and an USB/AUX port.
The LTZ gets another variant of MyLink that features smartphone connectivity and streaming audio. The touch screen displays options such as audio, pictures and movies, telephone, smartphone link and settings. Users can access personal playlists and make hands-free voice calls, amongst other functions.
The smartphone link function allows the use of Stitcher and TuneIn, which provides the driver access to over 70,000 internet radio stations worldwide.
The new Colorado also features an enhanced Display Information Cluster (DIC) – a backlit LCD panel in the instrument panel. It now comes with an ‘ECO Index Page’ that shows you how fuel efficient you have been, or not. If the driver is driving economically, a leaf will be shown. There’s also a Statistics Page, which highlights the average fuel consumption for the last 50 km in a bar graph. Lastly, there’s a Park-Assist System with sensors built into the rear bumper.
The Colorado range comes with a wide choice of two engines across three spec levels, with single, extended and crew-cab (double-cab) bodies in high- and low-stance configuration, as well as 2WD/4WD.
2012 Chevy Colorado
Spec wise, the Chevy Colorado LTZ trim of the 2.8 auto brings 17-inch alloys with 255/65 rubber (245/70 R16 for the rest), projector headlamps, power folding wing mirrors, fog lamp chrome garnish, LED tail lamps, roof rails, side steps, chrome gear knob, six-way powered driver’s seat, cruise control, auto door lock, buttons and leather on the steering and climate control. The latter is presented in a donut-style ring, while manual air-con continues with a three-dial layout.
Standard equipment across the board includes a USB/Bluetooth factory stereo, Driver Information Center, dual-airbags, ABS, EBD and Brake Assist. The 2.8 auto adds on ESP and a list of acronyms. They are Panic Brake Assist (PBA), Hydraulic Brake Fade Assist (HBFA), Cornering Brake Control (CBC) and Traction Control System (TCS).
History of Chevy Colorado
Chevy Colorado was a repackaged Isuzu DMax and was first released in Thailand in March 2004. Colorado created a sensation in the marketplace because it was a fantastic truck. It combined Japanese quality and engineering of diesel experts Isuzu and American styling thanks to GM. Isuzu was the lead engineer in the partnership with GM that developed the new GMT 355 platform, which serves the Colorado and GMC Canyon. Isuzu was responsible for packaging, interior design, establishing the quality and cost targets, tech specs and structure of the new truck. Isuzu and GM shared responsibility for styling and common component design. In 2001, the teams started individual programs and developed separate powertrain strategies. Isuzu DMax was introduced in May of 2002 in Thailand. In late January 2006, Chevrolet introduced a G-80 differential lock system as optional for most Colorado trim levels. This feature is not available on the D-Max. The Thai-market Colorado received a minor redesign in late 2007.

Chevy Colorado Duramax Diesel Engine
The newly developed 2500 cc and 2800 cc dieel engines are the newest members of the Duramax truck-engine family. They feature overhead cams, turbocharging and durable aluminum cylinder heads for high levels of refinement and durability.
Designed to offer class-leading torque, reliability and excellent fuel economy, the four-cylinder Duramax engines were tested in extreme conditions in Africa, Asia, Europe, North America and South America. They meet the advanced Euro IV emission standard and can be used in front-, rear- or all-wheel-drive applications.
Additionally, they were subjected to the same rigorous validation process as the Duramax 6.6-liter turbo diesel, which is sold primarily in North America.
