2016 Toyota Fortuner Thailand is available in 5 models. There are four Two Wheel Drive and one Four Wheel Drive Fortuners.

Among 4×2 Fortuner, there are two 2400 cc Diesel models in Manual and Auto. The lone manual transmission Fortuner comes with a six-speed “intelligent” manual transmission with rev-matching. The remaining 2.4V, 2.7G and 2.8G come with the new six-speed automatic with paddle shifters as standard.

2400 cc G Manual comes with fog lights, keyless entry, push-button start, a tilt- and telescopic-adjustable steering wheel, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, a 220 V power socket, three airbags (including one for the driver’s knee), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), traction control, Trailer Sway Control (TSC) and hill-start assist.

2400 cc V 2WD Auto and the lone Petrol 2700 cc V 2WD Auto come with dual-beam LED headlights with LED daytime running lights, puddle lights, brown leather upholstery, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a powered tailgate, auto air-conditioning for all three rows, a touchscreen navigation system, a reverse camera and side and curtain airbags. 2.8G also receives cruise control, while the 1,599,000 (RM178,000) 2.8G 4×4 gains tan leather upholstery and hill descent control.

Toyota Fortuner Exterior

2016 Toyota Fortuner has a new exterior look. It is wider and longer and has been redesigned from top to bottom. The sharp kink behind the doors and blacked-out C-pillar give it a floating roof look. Haunches on the side add to its bold look buoyed by beautiful 18″ alloy wheels.

All new Toyota Fortuner 2016 model measures 4795mm x 1855mm wide. Its 1835 height increases by 90 mm to make it at last wider than it is tall. Wheelbase remains unchanged at 2750mm, with a 193mm ground clearance.

A beautiful large twin slat chrome grille is flanked by LED headlamps for high and low beam, and front and rear foglamps. Daytime running lights feature LEDs are well. The headlight automatically adjusts from high to low beam. The LED taillights feature a light-guide system to display distinctive horizontal bars when lit. Side mirrors include turn-signal repeaters and puddle lamps. The roof rack is now more flush with the bodwork, and Fortuner uses a shark-fin antenna.

Toyota Fortuner Interior

Toyota Fortuner Interior has certainly been notched a few degree in comfort and luxuriousness.  The longer dashtop curve above a LandCruiser-like centre stack that features two padded columns, framing a large color TFT centre display that showcases an integrated design.

The driver gets an 8-way power seat and a tilt-telescoping three-spoke steering wheel with wood and leather finish. Dashboard is upscale and trimmed in synthetic leather and stitching. The gauges are twin analog Toyota Camry type Optitron-with a large color TFT multi-info screen mounted between to display trip computer information.

There are seven seats. Seats like the dashboard are trimmed in synthetic leather and metallic accents. The second row splits 60/40 and can be folded and lifted with one touch. The third row splits 50/50 and still slips sideways instead of folding flat. Seven airbags are available.

A smart key is standard for the new Fortuner, with push-button engine start for the top range V.

There’s storage galore, with bottle bins in the doors, sunglass holder, multiple cup holders, luggage hooks, and a cooler bin fitted above the glovebox. Other convenience features include a 220-volt AC socket and three 12-volt DC outlets. 220 volt AC socket means no adapters are required to charge your laptop and smart phones. You can plug them directly.

Fortuner also provides USB and Bluetooth connectivity, for phone and music. Six-speakers are standard for the Fortuner. A backup camera is provided. The tailgate is powered.

Toyota Fortuner New Engines

Toyota Fortuner now comes with two diesel ESTEC GD inline-4 turbodiesel engines with common-rail direct-injection and variable nozzle turbocharging (VNT). The base model comes with a 2400 cc with 150hp at 3400 rpm and 400Nm from from 1,600-2,000 rpm, while the top variants use a 2800 cc with 177 hp at 3,400 rpm and 450 Nm from 1,600-2,400 rpm. Toyota promises a quieter engine and up to 25 percent more fuel mileage from the 2800 cc diesel compared to the old 3000 cc D-4D Engine.  An 80-liter fuel tank expands the new Fortuner’s cruising range.

The gasoline petrol engine is a 2700 cc inline-4 with 166 hp at 5,200 rpm and 245 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The six-speed automatic features a paddle shift so you can switch to manual when so desired.

The 4×4 model no longer gets full-time all-wheel drive, but instead a rotary switch to select among high-range two-wheel and four-wheel drive, and low-range four-wheel drive.

2016 Toyota Fortuner Suspension

The semi-independent coil spring suspension of the outgoing model has been replaced with a more sophisticated multi-link layout for better balance between ride and handling. Toyota Fortuner uses independent double wishbones up front and a four-link with coil spring at the rear. Brakes are discs front and drum brakes at the rear. Tires are 265/60 R18s on 18-inch alloy wheels. The rear differential lock also has its componentry placed within the differential housing for improved off-road protection.

2016 Toyota Fortuner Safety

ABS and EBD, and brake assist are standard across all Fortuner variants, as are vehicle stability control and traction control. Hill start assist helps keep the Fortuner from rolling backward when on an uphill slope. The 4×4 model has hill descent control for better control when going down steep hills.
