Chevy Colorado is a repackaged Isuzu DMax and was first released in Thailand in March 2004. Colorado created a sensation in the marketplace because it was a fantastic truck. It combined Japanese quality and engineering of diesel experts Isuzu and American styling thanks to GM. Isuzu was the lead engineer in the partnership with GM that developed the new GMT 355 platform, which serves the Colorado and GMC Canyon. Isuzu was responsible for packaging, interior design, establishing the quality and cost targets, tech specs and structure of the new truck. Isuzu and GM shared responsibility for styling and common component design. In 2001, the teams started individual programs and developed separate powertrain strategies. Isuzu DMax was introduced in May of 2002 in Thailand. In late January 2006, Chevrolet introduced a G-80 differential lock system as optional for most Colorado trim levels. This feature is not available on the D-Max. The Thai-market Colorado received a minor redesign in late 2007.
